Linguapax Institute

The Linguapax Institute is a non-governmental organization based in Barcelona, Spain, that is "dedicated to the preservation and promotion linguistic diversity worldwide." [ [http://www.linguapax.org/en/queang.html Linguapax.org, "What is Linguapax?"] ] Among its areas of concern are endangered languages and multilingual education.

It was formed in 1987 after a UNESCO experts meeting. In 2001 the UNESCO Center of Catalonia (UNESCOCat) continued the project by establishing the Linguapax headquarters in Barcelona.

Linguapax Prize

The Linguapax Prize is an award presented each year on International Mother Language Day to one individual "in acknowledgement of their outstanding work in the field linguistic diversity and/or multilingual education." Linguapax International Network

Linguapax has steadily expanded its international activities and in 2006 formally established the "Linguapax International Network" consisting of 7 delegations: [ [http://www.linguapax.org/en/linguamon.html Linguapax.org. "Linguapax around the world"] ]

* Linguapax Eurasia, based at the University of Kalmykia in the Republic of Kalmykia of the Russian Federation
* Linguapax Europe, based at Unescocat in Barcelona, Spain
* Linguapax Pacific, based in New Caledonia.
