- Elis Province
Elis (Greek: Επαρχία Ηλείας "Eparchia Ilias") is a province covering the northern half of the
Elis Prefecture . The main places includesPyrgos,Amaliada ,Gastouni ,Lechaina ,Vartholomio , Varda,Andravida ,Myrsini ,Lampeia and Kyllini. The mountains dominate the northeast, the central part and the southeastern part including the northwest whereChlemoutsi is located. The province is bounded with the prefecture ofAchaia to the northeast,Arcadia to the east and theOlympia Province to the south. TheIonian Sea is to the west. Farmlands lie to around Pyrgos, the northeast and the northern part. The province is the westernmost in thePeloponnese . The central part of the province are covered with forests and grasslands along with groves. The province is home to about 80% of the entire prefectural population and about 2/3 of the prefectural land. The largest city and municipality in population is Pyrgos. Amaliada is followed second.The mountains includes the
Foloi , theOinoi mountains and the southern portion of theErymanthos mountains . The Chlemoutsi hills are located to the east. The main rivers includes the Pineios River (the longest), theLadon river and the western part of the Alpheus river. The main reservoir in the provinces includes the Peneus reservoir.Transportation
