Ontario PC Youth Association

Ontario PC Youth Association

The Ontario PC Youth Association, or the OPCYA, is the corresponding youth association to the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. The organization is a collection of PC activists between the ages of 14 and 26 in Ontario.

Structure

There is a provincial executive, consisting of the President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Membership Director, Communications Director, Policy Director, Fundraising Director, Recruitment Director, High Schools Director, Secretary-Treasurer, and two appointed directors. There are also 6 regional chairs – Southwestern, GTA, South Central, Eastern, Northern, and Metro.

There are also riding level OPCYA executives, consisting of President, Vice President, Social Director, and Secretary-Treasurer.

The current President of the OPCYA is Beth Corbett. OPCYA Website

Lack of Transparency

Prior to the merger of the Canadian Alliance Party and the Progressive Conservative Party federally in 2003, Rand Dyck argued that “the national Progressive Conservative party and the provincial PC parties are essentially independent organizations.” Now that there is no federal PC party, this structural separation is more pronounced. The Conservative Party of Canada is distinct both in name and structure from Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Party yet youth activism from the OPCYA has demonstrated that youth support both parties although they are very different in regards to ideology and issues.
