DAT Danish Air Transport is an airline based in Vamdrup, Denmark. It operates scheduled passenger and cargo services, and ad hoc passenger and cargo charters. Its main base is Vamdrup Kolding Airport (EKVD), with hubs at Esbjerg Airport, Florø Airport and Copenhagen Airportcite news | title= Directory: World Airlines | work= Flight International | page= 71 | date= 2007-04-03] .

History

The airline was founded and started operations in 1989. It was founded as a cargo airline, but soon added special operations, including flying live horses and supplies and spares in Africa during the Paris Dakar Rally. Passenger charters were added in 1994. Scheduled services started to be operated from 18 November 1996. The airline is owned by the Rungholm family (60%) and private investors (40%). It also wholly owns the DOT LT airline based in Lithuania.

In December 2004, DAT flew a couple of scheduled passenger flights, during a trial period, between Copenhagen and the Faroe Islands. Intending, if successful, to start regular service between the two countries, starting Easter 2005. However, it was decided, the ATR-42s were not suitable for the route and the airline would consider the possibility of using other aircraft types for the purpose.
