Fernando Correa, full name Fernando Edgardo Correa Ayala (born 6 January, 1974 in Montevideo), is an Uruguayan footballer, currently a striker for C.A. Peñarol. He also holds an Italian passport.

Club career

After four seasons with Club Atlético River Plate (Uruguay), Correa moved abroad to Atlético de Madrid, making his "La Liga" debut on 10 September 1995 against Racing de Santander. Incidentally, he would be loaned for two seasons to the Cantabria side, scoring 27 league goals in that period, enough to earn a return to the Spanish capital. There, however, he would never be more than a decent offensive backup (at least in the first division).

After a two-year stint with RCD Mallorca and six further games for Real Valladolid ("Segunda División"), Correa returned to Uruguay and River Plate, joining C.A. Peñarol after a short stint with China's Shanghai Shenhua.

International career

An intermitent Uruguayan full international, Correa previously represented the nation at the 1993 FIFA World Youth Championship.
