ARICNS =HR 4796 is a binary star system approximately 220
light-year s away in theconstellation of Centaurus. The system includes an A-type main sequencestar and ared dwarf star. The primary star is twice as massive as the Sun and twenty times more luminous. It is thought to be approximately 8 million years old and is surrounded by aprotoplanetary disk that was discovered in 1991. The dust in the disk appears to be the result of collisions betweenplanetesimal s.cite web

title=Suggestive Red Dust in Protoplanetary Disk
publisher=Centauri Dreams
accessdate=2008-01-08]In 2007 observations using the Near-Infrared Multi-Object Spectrometer aboard the
Hubble Space Telescope indicated that the dust had a reddish spectrum similar to that oftholin s. [cite journal| journa=ApJL| title=Complex Organic Materials in the Circumstellar Disk of HR 4796A| first= J.H.|last= Debes|coauthors= A.J. Weinberger, G. Schneider| id=arxiv|0712.3283]See also
