Prebendary William S. Scott, is anAnglican priest who currently serves asDeputy Clerk of the Closet , Sub-dean of theChapel Royal ,Sub-Almoner , and Domestic Chaplain to Her Majesty theQueen of the United Kingdom [ [http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/court_and_social/article2825954.ece Court circular - Times Online ] ] . In these positions he is a member of theEcclesiastical Household and the only full-time clerical member of theRoyal Household of the Sovereign of theUnited Kingdom .As
Deputy Clerk of the Closet , Scott is responsible for assisting theClerk of the Closet , who is currently the Rt. Rev’dChristopher Hill ,Bishop of Guildford , in advising thePrivate Secretary to the Sovereign on candidates to fill vacancies in the Roll of Chaplains to the Sovereign. As Sub-dean of theChapel Royal , Scott is responsible for providing for the spiritual needs of the Sovereign and for overseeing the daily operations of the Chapel Royal including its choirs and staff of priests. AsSub-Almoner , Scott is responsible for the daily operations of theRoyal Almonry , the alms giving office of theRoyal Household . Among other functions, the Royal Almonry oversees the annual Royal Maundy Service, in which the Queen distributes small red and white purses of specially minted silver coins to retired pensioners. Prior toNovember 7 ,2007 , William S. Scott served as the Chaplain of The Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy and the Chaplain of theRoyal Victorian Order .
