Its seat is the village of Frysztak, which lies approximately convert|14|km|mi|0 south-west of Strzyżów and convert|36|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-west of the regional capital Rzeszów.

The gmina covers an area of convert|90.51|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 10,635.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Czarnorzeki-Strzyżów Landscape Park.
