Its seat is the town of Ujazd, which lies approximately convert|14|km|mi|0 south-east of Strzelce Opolskie and convert|43|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-east of the regional capital Opole.

The gmina covers an area of convert|83.31|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 6,284 (out of which the population of Ujazd amounts to 1,652, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 4,632).
