Its seat is the town of Kietrz, which lies approximately convert|19|km|mi|0 south-east of Głubczyce and convert|66|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of the regional capital Opole.

The gmina covers an area of convert|139.93|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 11,838 (out of which the population of Kietrz amounts to 6,365, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 5,473).

Location

Gmina Kietrz is bordered by the gminas of Baborów, Branice, Głubczyce and Pietrowice Wielkie. It also borders the Czech Republic.
