Hernanes is a product of the Sao Paulo academy and has played for them since 2001. He was loaned out to Santo Andre for the 2006-2007 season and since he came back, he has never looked back, establishing himself as one of the finest midfielders in the Brazilian league. At the end of the 2007-2008 season in Europe, Hernanes was linked with a host of European clubs namely Spanish giants
