Its seat is the town of Gąbin, which lies approximately convert|17|km|mi|0 south of Płock and convert|89|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of Warsaw.

The gmina covers an area of convert|146.71|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 10,858 (out of which the population of Gąbin amounts to 4,137, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 6,721).
