Eastern Orthodox saint ,monk and famous painter oficon s from thecave monastery ofKiev Pechersk Lavra . Saint Alipy was a disciple of Greek icon painters fromConstantinople [ [http://www.lavra.kiev.ua/en/main.php?id=118&t=nearcaves Our Holy Father Alipy the Iconographer] Kiev Pechersk Lavra Website] and considered to be the firsticonographer of theKievan Rus .According to medieval sources, Alipy created his icons with the help of God and angels. The saint took part in creation of
mosaic painting inDormition Cathedral of theLavra . Presumably, the artist also participated in the painting of murals in St. Michael's Cathedral in Kiev. When his body was discovered, it was found that the fingers of his right hand were still formed in the Orthodox manner of making the

feast day of Saint Alipy is celebrated in theOrthodox Church onAugust 17 (for those churches which follow theJulian Calendar , August 17 currently falls on August 30 of the modernGregorian Calendar ). He is also celebrated, in common with other saints of his monastery onSeptember 28 (October 11), the "Synaxis of the Holy Fathers of Kieve whose relics lie in theNear Caves of Saint Anthony".His
