- Innocenti Mini
The Innocenti Mini was an
automobile introduced byLeyland Innocenti in 1974. The vehicle was a rebodied, 3-doorhatchback version of theMini , styled byBertone . The new-style Mini was originally launched in two versions, the 90L and 120L – the former having the 998 cc A-series engine putting out 43 bhp, and the latter the 1275 cc unit, with an extra 20 bhp on tap. These outputs were later uprated to 49 bhp and 65 bhp respectively. However, within a year of its launch, BLMC went bankrupt and Innocenti was sold to de Tomaso - see
Innocenti De Tomaso - who built the car until1993 .After 1982, the English engines incorporated into the original design being no longer available, the car was adapted to take a three cylinder
Daihatsu engine from 1983.At one stage, the Innocenti Mini was sold in the UK and there were even plans for it to replace the British Mini, but these came to nothing.
