The Moe Gaung Pagoda is the principle pagoda in the township, and hosts the annual Moe Gaung Paya-pwe, or pagoda festival, one of the few remaining in Yangon.

hindu community, thus Yankin has a rich collection of Hindu temples. Most of the temples are dedicated toKali andGanesh .A large Chinese temple (Joss House) is present in Yankin - it is the largest Chinese temple complex in Yangon.

Yankin was the site of one of the many public housing programmes implemented by
U Nu 's post independene government. Much of this still exist, termedYankin Taik khans .Yankin Kyae Oh (YKKO) is a fast growing fast food chain selling chinese noodles (kyay oh) in several outlets around Yangon. It had its first shop in Yankin, thus its name.
