The HTC Touch Dual, also known as the HTC NEON300, is a Windows Mobile-powered PDA Phone. It is designed and manufactured by HTC and was announced in October 2007 and released in November that year.

History

The HTC Touch Dual was announced on October 1, 2007 in London [ [http://www.europe.htc.com/z/pdf/press/EMEA_HTC_Touch_Dual_EN.pdf HTC Press Release] ] , and launched on Orange in the UK in late November 2007. From 2008 it is was made available on T-Mobile as the MDA Touch Plus [ [http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/sd_touchplus.html T-Mobile MDA Software Update] ] , and on O2 as the XDA Star. In the UK all versions will be the 16-key variant, while the 20-key variant will be available in mainland Europe and elsewhere.On January 28, 2008, it was made available for Telstra's NextG network.

Features

General

The HTC Touch Dual runs the standard Windows Mobile 6 Professional applications, and features the ability to install others.

Interface

A stylus is provided for some touch interaction. Like its predecessor the HTC Touch, the Touch Dual features HTC's TouchFLO technology, aimed at simplifying the interface and allowing finger-tip, gesture-based access to the most used features of the phone. This runs on top of the Windows Mobile operating system. However, unlike its predecessor, the Touch Dual does not have built-in WiFi.

As well as TouchFLO, gesture-based technology is seen in HTC's photo album software.

The addition of a sliding keypad is one of the main features of the Touch Dual, and this comes in two variants depending on model and geographic location. The 16-key variant is a standard mobile phone keypad, with four added buttons for the Windows Mobile OS (Start, Internet Explorer, Messaging & Back). Meanwhile the 20-key variant is a QWERTY keyboard featuring the BlackBerry-style SureType layout, which does not feature the added Windows Mobile keys. Both of the keyboards can appear virtually on the touchscreen, irrespective of model.
