Rap6

Rap6

RAP6 is the abbreviation for Rab5-activating protein 6, a novel endosomal protein with a role in endocytosis. RAP6 was discovered by Alejandro Barbieri and his group of researchers (Christine Hunker, Adriana Galvis, Ivan Kruk, Hugo Giambini, Lina Torres and Maria Luisa Veisaga) working at Florida International University.

This novel human protein has been reported to be involved in membrane trafficking. It has been shown that RAP6 has a GEF (guanine nucleotide exchange factor) activity specific to Rab5 and a GAP (GTPase activating protein) activity specific to RAS [ [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16410077?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum Rab5-activating protein 6, a novel endosomal prote... The first publication regarding this novel gene can be found in the 2006 Feb 17;340(3):967-75 issue of the Biochemical & Biophysics Research Communications journal.

The original GeneBank Identifications (GIs) have been published in the NCBI Nucleotide databases with GIs 7717671 [ [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/viewer.fcgi?db=nucleotide&val=77176718 NCBI Sequence Viewer v2.0 ] ] and 77176720 [ [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/viewer.fcgi?db=nuccore&id=77176720 NCBI Sequence Viewer v2.0 ] ] . Since then, many names have been coined to the validated protein such as RabGEF1, GeneID: 27342 [ [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=gene&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=full_report&list_uids=27342 Gene Result ] ] [ [http://www.gene-profiles.org/gene/rabgef1-homo-sapiens-27342 Rabgef1 Homo Sapiens 27342 ] ] . RAP6 belongs to the family of the GAPVD1, GeneID: 26130 [ [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=26130&ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Gene.Gene_ResultsPanel.Gene_RVDocSum Gene Result ] ]
