The Institut TELECOM (previously "Groupe des Écoles des Télécommunications" or GET) was created in December 1996 as an administrative public establishment assuring the management of several higher education establishments and of French research in the sector of the Information Technology and Telecommunications.

Institut TELECOM's mission lies in higher education, research and continuing training in the field of information and communication science and technology. It is a public administrative institution placed under the aegis of the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Employment.

It is composed of :
* TELECOM ParisTech (ex École nationale supérieure des télécommunications, also known under the name Télécom Paris) located in Paris
* the two schools of the TELECOM & Management SudParis (TELECOM SudParis and TELECOM Ecole de Management) located in Évry
* TELECOM Bretagne located in Brest and Rennes
* two more affiliates with of other partners: TELECOM Lille 1 (former ENIC, with the USTL) located in Lille and Institut Eurécom (formed by TELECOM ParisTech and EPFL) located in Sophia Antipolis.

Since the 1 January 2007, Pascal Faure is president of the board of directors of the Institut TELECOM.

In january 2008, GET was renamed as Institut TELECOM.
