It was named after the Greek heroPhiloctetes , who fought during theTrojan War . It was discovered byCornelis Johannes van Houten ,Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld andTom Gehrels onSeptember 24 ,1960 in Palomar,California at thePalomar Observatory .1868 Thersites was also discovered the same day by the same group.External links
