Dubrovin Stanislav

Dubrovin Stanislav

Dubrovin Stanislav (1863-1967) ( _he. דוברובין יואב) was a Subbotnik who founded the first well-functioning farm in the Hulah Valley.

Together with his family, Dubrovin came to Palestine from Astrakhan in 1903. He settled in today's Yesod HaMa'ala and the family were converted to Judaism. Dubrovin's family got 650 dunams and built a well-developed hacienda.

Unfortunately, his hacienda was too close to a swamp as a result two Dubrovin's sons and two grandchildren died of maleria. Dubrovin was granted many awards in agriculture. He died at the age of 104.

In 1968 his grandchild, Itzhak Dubrovin, presented the Dubrovin Estate to the Jewish National Fund in which was founded a museum. This museum commemorates the founders of the community, containing personal possessions and furniture from 19th century Russia, where most of the founders lived prior to Israel. Part of the museum includes ruins of a synagogue dating between the 4th and 6th centuries, highlighting the historic Jewish claim to the region.
