Originally airing in
Steelville, Missouri , with call lettersKNSX owner, Twenty-One Sound Communications, sought to sell the station in September, 2007 for a reported 15 Million. After no suitable buyers were found, They switched gears to move the station to Hermann, Missouri. On December 14, 2007 The FCC approved a call letter change to KQQX, as well as a construction permit for the station.Construction permit
Pursuant to FCC regulations, KQQX plans to build a new 33,000 watt tower and transmitter in Hermann, MO. This move better serves the West suburban area of St. Louis. The new transmitter will broadcast the station from Columbia to St. Louis, as well as from Hannibal to Steeleville. This is part of a restructioning of the Twenty-One Sound Communications plan to form a stable cluster of radio stations in, and around the St. Louis market.
Currently the owners are looking for an investment partner to help carry out this plan.
Digital broadcast
KQQX was one of the first FM stations that was digitally automated with no live DJs. The station also was a pioneer with webcasting a live feed online via Real Audio, of which KQQX was among the top 10 most listened to webstreams in 1997-1998.
