River Rescue was a 1982 game for the Commodore VIC-20. It was one of a number of game titles for the Vic-20 which were produced by Thorn EMI Video Programmes (UK) during 1982 and 1983.

Description

The aim is to rescue explorers lost in the jungle.

The player guides a boat along a river, which scrolls from right to left across the screen. The river and boat are viewed from above. The boat must avoid colliding with various floating hazards in the river - these objects include crocodiles and canoes. After a while, an SOS call in morse code is received and soon a jetty comes into view. The boat must dock with this jetty and a lost explorer will walk aboard. There are three explorers to rescue.

Once the round is complete, the game starts again, faster.

Gameplay

The game can either be played with a joystick or using the keyboard. The keyboard controls are as follows:

When a game starts, and in between goes, action pauses until the player moves the joystick up or down (or presses the 'a' or 'd' key).

Before and between games, the game plays in randomised demonstration mode.
