Shibata Katsutoyo

Shibata Katsutoyo

was a samurai commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period.

Shibata Katsuie was his uncle, and Katsutoyo was adopted.

The meeting in Kiyosu Castle was held after Oda Nobunaga died.As the result of that, Katsuie got Nagahama Castle at Ōmi Province and let Katsutoyo defend it. However, Katsuie favored his other adopted son, Shibata Katsumasa, and disfavored Katutoyo. In addition, Katsutoyo was on bad terms with Sakuma Morimasa.Because of that, he changed sides to Hashiba Hideyoshi. He sent retainers as his proxies to the Battle of Shizugatake in 1583 since he was ill.Kastutoyo died from a disease soon after the battle.
