The 2M Group is an alliance of 12 local authorities representing 2 million residents living in the vicinity of
Heathrow airport nearLondon . 2007-01-29 |work=This is London |author=Mark Prigg] , worsening air pollution and increased climate change emissions from aviation at a time that other sectors are expected to reduce theirs.Of particular concern is a planning application to lift the number of annual movements from 480,000 to possibly as high as 720,000, proposals to restrict relief from runway alternation during the day (planes currently switch runways at 3pm every day), canceling the Cranford agreement (which restricts take offs to the east from the northern runway), a review of "westerly preference" (where planes normally descend from the east), proposals for "mixed mode operation" (where each existing runway is used concurrently for both arrivals and departures) and proposals for the third runway.
