"South Side" is a 1999 song by Moby taken from his album "Play". It is one of his most successful singles, peaking at #14 on the United States Billboard Hot 100.

Meaning

Moby has said that the song was inspired by his visits to Chicago and his love for its house scene. [Jim DeRogatis, [http://web.archive.org/web/20050507072347/http://www.suntimes.com/output/derogatis/cst-ftr-moby25.html Moby's infectious gems have no regard for genre] , Chicago Sun-Times, April 25, 2005] :"Here we are now going to the west side":"weapons in hand as we go for a ride" ...

:"where there's love and darkness and my side arm" ...

:"I pick up my friends and we hope we won't die"

Reissue

"South Side" appears as track five on Moby's 1999 album, "Play", and was originally recorded with Gwen Stefani of No Doubt. However, Moby dropped the duet from the album due to technical problems. The Moby/Stefani version of "South Side" is available on the song's single and on the reissue of "Play". The "Album Version" without Stefani is available on "".
