Atanu Ghosh (born Aug 12, 1969) is a critically acclaimed Bengali Indian short film director, writer and Film Editor.

Biography

Early life

After completing post-graduation in journalism, Atanu Ghosh started his career in 1996 as scriptwriter and director of documentary films, the first series being Pioneers of Indian Science for Doordarshan National Network. Thereafter, he branched out to fictional serials and telefilms.

Career

Atanu Ghosh received Doordarshan National Award for Best Children's telefilm Aar ek Bampi in 2002. Another telefilm, Akashchhoan was selected for the 10th International Kolkata Film Festival, 2004. Sumitra Online was selected for the Telesamman Award for the Best Telefilm of 2005 and Asamapto for Best Direction in 2006. Megh Brishti Rodh fetched him the coveted RAPA Award for Best screenplay. He was awarded the prestigious Shyamal Sen Smriti Samman for 2008. He has also written a play for National School of Drama, New Delhi entitled "Ruh-ba-Ruh" directed by Koushik Sen. Till date, he has directed 23 telefilms. Atanu Ghosh has also worked as scriptwriter and editor for many eminent directors. Also, he has directed over 30 documentary and corporate films for many reputed organizations

Atanu Ghosh frequently works with Soumitro Chatterjee & Indrani Haldar. Both of them are all time greatest Bengali actors acknowledged by contemporaries. The success of Atanu Ghosh's films lies in the script as well, they are rather simple but carries messages. Story and script of all films he made are also by him.The characters in Atanu Ghosh's Telefilms are often very mature and his Telefilms has started a new age wave in Bengali Television Media.Though Atanu Ghosh has never made a full length feature film, he is very respected film-maker. Budgetary constraints doesn't allow to experiment much in Bengali movie Industry. Where as short films are experienting and discovering new genres of film making and are very popular among educated Bengali society.
