Vaikkath Pachu Moothathu

Vaikathu Paramesvara Sivadvija, popularly known as Vaikath Pachu Moothathu,was a versatile scholar of erstwhile princely state of Travancore. A scholar of Ayurveda,Sanskrit,Malayalam and history, pioneered in writing the first autobiography in Malayalam ,established the first institution form learning the traditional Indian medicine in 1886 AD, which developed to Government Ayurveda College,Thiruvanathapuram in the later era. Born on 25th Edavam 989 Kolla era at Vaikom and for the larger part of his life he resided at Vattappalli Madham in Suchindrum,Kanya Kumari district.He was the Kottaram vaidyan of erstwhile Travancore state and he was presented with the Veera Sringala by Maharaja His Highness Ayilyam Thirunal. He started to learn Astangahrdaya in the Kollam era 1018 (Kanni2)and completed on the 29th of Thulam 1018.He wrote SRIRAMACARITRAM MAHAKAVYAM(1037 KOLLAM ERA), THIRUVITAMCORE CARITRAM( ,narrating the legends and facts up to the 1036 kollam era i.e. up to the period of Maharaja Ayilyam Thirunal.Hradyapriya(1040,KOLLAM ERA) and Sukhasadhakam(1057) are two important works by Sri Pachu Moothathu on Ayurveda can be considered as a pragmatic commentary of Vahata's ASTANGAHRIDAYA.The great soul departed us on 1058 chingam 9.
