Francis Mostyn was born in
Talacre , as the fourth son of Sir Pyers Mostyn, 8th Baronet (1811-1882) (seeMostyn Baronets ) and Frances Georgina Graser (d. 1899), and was ordained to the priesthood onSeptember 14 ,1884 .On
July 4 ,1895 , he was appointed the first Apostolic Vicar ofWales and Titular Bishop of "Ascalon" byPope Leo XIII . Mostyn received his episcopal consecration on the followingSeptember 14 (the ninth anniversary of his priestly ordination) from Herbert Cardinal Vaughan, with Bishops John Carroll and John Hedley, OSB serving as co-consecrators.He was later named
Bishop of Menevia upon his vicariate's elevation to adiocese onMay 14 ,1898 . OnMarch 7 ,1921 , Mostyn was appointedArchbishop of Cardiff byPope Benedict XV , leading the only archdiocese in Wales.He later died at the age of 79, having served as Archbishop for eighteen years.
