"Planaxidae" are a taxonomic family of medium-sized sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Sorbeoconcha.

Description

This family is related to the Cerithiidae but with a simple aperture, channelled, but only slightly notched at the anterior end.

Distribution is worldwide.

Taxonomy

The new taxonomy of Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) recognizes two subfamilies
*Fossarinae A. Adams, 1860
*Planaxinae Gray, 1850
