Its seat is the town of Złoty Stok, which lies approximately convert|16|km|mi|0 south of Ząbkowice Śląskie, and convert|77|km|mi|0 south of the regional capital Wrocław.

The gmina covers an area of convert|75.63|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 4,748 (out of which the population of Złoty Stok amounts to 2,930, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 1,818).

Gmina Złoty Stok is bordered by the gminas of Bardo, Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, Kłodzko, Lądek-Zdrój and Paczków. It also borders the Czech Republic.
