Its seat is the town of Brzeg Dolny, which lies approximately convert|11|km|mi|0 south-east of Wołów, and convert|28|km|mi|0 north-west of the regional capital Wrocław.

The gmina covers an area of convert|94.4|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 16,215 (out of which the population of Brzeg Dolny amounts to 12,786, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 3,429).
