Mundo Estranho (Strange World in portuguese) is a curiosities and diversities' magazine, very popular with Brazilian teenagers and it is the country's most popular magazine of its type. It was a division from Superinteressante magazine, but reached a kind of "half-independence" a few months after its first issue (November of 2001).

Contents

Superinteressante's age (2001 - 2002)

During its first two years, the magazine was a special issue from Superinteressante, an influential scientific magazine in Brazil. "Mundo Estranho's" content was more scientific and its articles were more serious. The magazine's team worked together with "Superinteressante's" team. With the magazine's popularity rising up, the "Superinteressante's" chief-editors decided to separate a special team exclusively for it, and publish it as an independent magazine. Some modifications were made with the magazine's structure and its logo.

Humoristic ages (2002 - Nowadays)

With an exclusive team and good reputation between the teenagers, "Mundo Estranho" initiated a humoristic phase, with a funnier writing in its articles and more curiosities about sex, musical bands and movies.

Main topics

In its 70th edition (December 2007), the magazine suffered little modifications with its structure. This is the new magazine's division:

  • Postcard Box: a section with letters from the magazine's readers;
  • Mundo Estranho's Big Gift: magazine's sales promotions;
  • ME Digital: two pages with news about the magazine's website and the readers' comments in the magazine's Orkut and sales promotions for mobile-phones and smartphones;
  • Duel: it is a competition between any two subjects. The magazine's team establishes five topics for each duel and compares the weak and the strong points from each "fighter". The most famous published "fights" were Harry Potter X The Lord of the Rings, Gandalf X Professor Dumbledore, Bill Gates X Carlos Slim and X-Men X Heroes;
  • Super-Career: this is a bimonthly topic which is alternated with the topic "Interchange". It shows a description of uncommon jobs (like "grave digger") and gives hints to help the reader to follow these careers;
  • Interchange: this is a bimonthly topic which is alternated with the topic "Super-Career". It describes the life in distant countries, like Mauritania, Bangladesh or Bulgaria.
  • Top 10: a list of ten things about curious topics, like "The 10 Richest Teenagers in the World" or "The 10 Notorious Serial-Killers";
  • Question and Answer: it's the largest topic, usually with more than 20 pages. It contains a series of interesting questions, like "How is a pencil made?", "How does the Vacuum Bomb works?" or "What is the biggest star in the Universe?";
    • Short and Thick: short questions and short answers;
    • Classic Questions: questions made by almost everyone that still without a certain answer, like "How were the Egyptian Pyramids made?";
  • The Book is on the Table: about books;
  • Tech: the latest news about technology;
  • Games: as the title says, its only about games and their famous "cheat codes";
  • Cinema & TV: curiosities about movies and TV programs;
  • Telling, No One Believes!: weird curiosities around the world.

Mundo Estranho Hot

A.k.a "ME Hot", it's the first division of "Mundo Estranho". It follows the same structure from the main magazine, but with questions and curiosities only about sex. This division was created in consequence of the innumerable female teenagers criticisms about the supposed maleness in the "Mundo Estranho's" articles, so the magazine's team decided to create a division only for male teenagers and exclude all the articles about sex in "Mundo Estranho".
