Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita. At Tilden Tech High School in
Chicago, Illinois he was captain of his undefeated high school football team. They won the Chicago Public School championship in front of 68,000 fans atSoldier Field . Four of his high school teammates went on to play at Notre Dame forFrank Leahy , but it was Kriwiel who was named “Most Valuable Player” of the team. As a player, Kriwiel attended The University of Wichita (what now is called Wichita State) in 1947, where he started for the Shockers at quarterback. He holds several school records, and he led the Shockers to
