Nimal Mendis . It was originally performed by Nirasha Perera and Victor Silva for the Sri Lankan film "Ganga Addara ".Background and composition
Nimal Mendis wrote the song specifically for Victor Silva after hearing him sing on the Sooriya Show. Mendis' draft of the lyrics was completed in English and translated to Sinhala by Augustus Vinayagaratnam. Silva suggested 12-year old Nirasha Perera to accompany him on the duet.
It was recorded in
1979 at the Joe-Neth studio under conductor Sarath Fernando. Nirasha was joined by children from Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya, Borella on the chorus.Other versions

1981 popular singers Neela Wickremasinghe andT. M. Jayaratne recorded a cover of the song for commercial purposes. This version became popular on SLBC and the Rupavahini Corporation overshadowing the original.
