HMS Rainbow (1586)

HMS Rainbow (1586)

HMS "Rainbow" was a galleon of the English Royal Navy, launched in 1586. She fought against the Spanish during the Spanish Armada, including the Battle of Gravelines in 1588.

In 1617 "Rainbow" was rebuilt at Deptford as a great ship mounting 40 guns. She was again reconstructed about 1630 as a Second rate, although the work was not classed as an official rebuilding. By 1660 this had increased to 56 guns.

She was sunk at Sheerness in 1680.
