Julius Ylitalo (born Otto Sarvamaa, March 2 1991 in Helsinki, Finland) is a Finnish musician and record executive. Ylitalo is one of the two founders of ftrd music and currently works as the A&R director for the label, but will replace Mikael Montonen as the CEO in 2009. He is perhaps best known as a producer, but is also a vocalist and occasional guitarist in multiple groups.

Biography

Julius Ylitalo began writing and producing music in 2004 when he met fellow producer Patric Craft. The two worked together for a while as Chris & Craft but eventually dissolved to focus on different projects. Ylitalo then went to work with Ilmari Perälä as Tokyo Soundsystem, and released the somewhat notorious EP "Illegal Promotion". After the EP it was revealed that most of the songs were actually written and produced by Julius alone and the two parted ways. In 2006 Ylitalo appeared as a vocalist and producer on the self-titled EP of Herkkupojat, formed by him and childhood friend Patrik Ignatius. The EP was an underground success and was quickly followed by new material. The duo is now working on an album scheduled for release in 2009. Julius Ylitalo announced his first solo album "Too Glam to DJ" in late 2006. The record was supposedly to be released sometime in the summer of 2007 but was pushed by Ylitalo himself to 2008. Two singles were released before Ylitalo announced that "Too Glam to DJ" was put on hold, allowing him to focus on other projects, most notably the new Herkkupojat album and ftrd music, but also Tokyo Soundsystem. Ylitalo and Perälä released new material in 2007 and are reportedly working on new songs.

In 2008 Ylitalo announced he would be taking a break from music production for a while to take time to set up a record label, ftrd music with friend and producer Mikael Montonen. The label is already functioning, though it will be officially established and formed in early 2009. Ylitalo, who is now the A&R Director for the label, is set to replace Montonen as the CEO in early 2009. The suggested new position for Montonen is officially unknown, but he's widely believed to move to co-CEO. Artists signed to ftrd music include Ylitalo himself, in-house production duo Superweekend and Herkkupojat.
