elevation_max =Glyka Nera (Greek: Γλυκά Νερά meaning "sweet water"), is a suburb in the northeastern part of
Athens ,Greece . TheHymettus mountain is to the west and southwest. The nearestAthens Metro subway station is atDoukissis Plakentias subway station . It serves access with theAttiki Odos (numbers 6 and 63), the main section was served to its east but by March 2004, it now has its own interchange with the Hymettus Ring with Lavriou Avenue. The Attiki Odos runs to the northeast and east while the Hymettus rung runs slightly south of the centre. A tunnel is to its northwest. It is located SE of GR-1/E75 (Athens - Lamia -Thessaloniki ), E and SE of Kifissia Avenue, W ofRafina , NW ofSounio andEleftherios Venizelos International Airport and about 12 km NE of downtownAthens . Another main street was a difficult road linking to GR-1.The area were made up of farmlands. Farmlands used to dominate the land which included groves. In the 1980s and the 2000s, urban development and a few businesses replaced much of the farmlands. The remaining farmlands are around Glyka Nera. The
Penteli mountains to the northeast. The higher parts of the mountains ofAegaleo and theHymettus to the south can also be seen. The forests lie to the southwest and to the west and where one of Hymettus' forest can be seen. TheFourezi hill lies to the west.The construction of the junction with the Hymettus Ring with a few lanes heading to Rafina began in the 2000s, in 2002, it was halfway done. The superhighway with the Hymettus Ring wasn't paved until 2004 or opened until early to mid-2004. The junction is about 2 km from downtown Gerakas. Nearby residential area are southwest of the interchange and an
IKEA store is nearby the area in which after the Greek victory ofEuro 2004 on July 5, 2004, the bus passed near IKEA with people by the side of the street.Glyka Nera has schools, a few lyceums, a few gymnasia, banks, a post office and squares ("plateies") including
Agia Triada square .Historical population
