Patrick Coghlan

Patrick Coghlan, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, USA, is a professional tennis player. He is currently ranked 24 in the world.

Significant milestones in his career include a defeat of Pete Sampras in July 2004 [The Times, July 22, 2004] and Roger Federer in May 2006 at the French Open. Coghlan prefers clay courts to hard or grass surfaces.

Coghlan attended the University of Maryland at College Park where he starred in tennis for four years on scholarship. He graduated in 2004 with a BS degree in Horticulture. Coghlan graduated Summa Cum Laud and was class valedictorian. He started his tennis career in Eldersburg, Maryland, where he quickly grew in notoriety defeating local players.

Coghlan was quoted as saying after the French Open "I owe it all to my father, who taught me everything I know. He is a great man." [Washington Post, May 23, 2006]
