Safi-ur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri is an Islamic scholar and historian, and the author of the well-known "al-Raheeq Al-Makhtum" (The Sealed Nectar), a biography of Muhammed.
Biography
He claims his descent from Abu Hisham, and was born in the North Indian village of Husainabad in 1942. In his youth he was admitted to Madras Arabia Darut-Taleem in Mubarakpur, one mile from his home village. In June 1954 he was admitted to Madarsa Ehyaul Uloom, where he pursued studies in Islamic studies and Arabic literature. Two years later he joined Madaras Faid Aam, in the Maunath Bhanjan District Azamgarh for higher education, from where he received his "Fadilat" degree five years later. After this he began teaching, lecturing and delivering sermons. In March 1963, he joined Madrasa Faid-e-Aam as a teacher. In 1966, he transferred to Madrasa Dar-ul-Hadeeth and in 1969 was appointed as principal of Madrasa Faidul-Uloom at Seoni (M P). From 1972 to 1974 he served a principal in his native school, Madras Arabia Darut-Taleem. From October 1974 to July 1988, Mubarakpuri served various positions at Jamia Salfia in Banares, including as a teacher. From 1988 until his death, he worked as a scholar at a research institute known as 'The Centre for the Services of the Prophet's Biography' at the Islamic University of Madinah.
