Kozhuvalloor

Kozhuvallur (Kozhuvalloor) is a small village in the Chengannur taluk of Alappuzha district. It is situated about 10 KM south of Chengannur town. The Road to Kozhuvallur from Chengannur deviates at Chammathu Mukku on the Chengannur-Mavelikkara Road before Kodukulanji. Kozhuvallur lies about 8 KM north-west of Pandalam. From the Pandalam side, the road to Kozhuvallur branches at Kulanada on the Main Central (MC) Road. Administratively, Kozhuvallur comes under Mulakkuzha Panchayat. It is separated from the nearby Venmony village by a large strip of paddy field called Changapadam. North side of this village has hilly tracts. The geographical features of this village represent the picturesque midland pattern of Kerala with good vegetation, fertile wet fields, and hills.

The name Kozhuvallur may be described as the "Village of Peasants". "Kozhuvan" means Farmer. Most of the elder people in the village are peasants. Consequently, this village is famous for good quality betel leaf, arecanut, banana and tapioca. After the Gulf boom, many went to the Gulf countries and made a good living. Kozhuvallur has many of its sons in the Indian Army and BSF as well.

Syrian Christians are settled in the western part of Kozhuvallur and this area is comparatively well-off. They are relatively recent settlers in the village coming from Venmony and Kodukulanji. In the eastern part, Hindus form the majority. Ezhava, Nair, Viswakarma, Pulaya, and Kurava are the castes of this village.

Kozhuvalloor Devi Temple is an ancient place of worship for the Hindus. "Kumbha Karthika" during the month of February-March (Kumbham) is the important festival of this temple. The granite stone structure of the Roman Catholic Church of the Latin Rite is a majestic landmark of the village. People also worship in the Guru Mandirams commemorating the Saint, Sri Narayana Guru. There is a CBSE School named St.George English Medium School near to the St. George's Orthodox Church.
