Philosophy and Belief

Philosophy and Belief

Philosophy and Belief is a school subject taught at schools across the country. It is similar to a subject taught across the country Religious Education. Its main differences are that it has more emphasis on things like debating, moral and philosophical issues and dilemmas, wars, matters of life and death like abortion, contraception for example. Also looks at sexism, racism and religion in the media.

It is still certainly in a minority, only being taught in place of Religious Education at some schools, probably the most famous one is Wellsway School whose Philosophy and Belief department is very good.

It has been criticised for not teaching people enough about religions. Others argue it does this but in an interesting and fun way whilst teaching students knowledge about thow to plan their life with subjects like gambling, racism and sexismfact|date=January 2008.
