Yang Chen ( _zh. 杨晨; born January 17, 1974 in Beijing, China) is a professional football player.

Career

In 1997 he left Chinese club Beijing Guoan for Eintracht Frankfurt, then of the Bundesliga.

While playing for Frankfurt, Yang became the first Chinese player to score in any one of the five major European football leagues. In his first year at Frankfurt, Yang scored 8 goals in the Bundesliga and helped the team to avoid relegation to 2. Bundesliga. However, in the second year, manager Felix Magath gave Chen little playing time.

Yang transferred in 2002 to FC St. Pauli. He later went back to his home country to play for Shenzhen Jianlibao. Yang Chen also played for China at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He is the Chinese player to have come closest to scoring in the World Cup finals when his volley ricocheted off the post in the 3-0 loss to Turkey. He now plays for Xiamen Lanshi.
