- BSIM
BSIM (Berkeley Short-channel
IGFET Model) refers to a family ofMOSFET transistor models for integrated circuit design. Accuratetransistor models are needed forelectronic circuit simulation , which in turn is needed forintegrated circuit design . As the devices become smaller each process generation (seeMoore's law ), new models are needed to accurately reflect the transistor's behavior.Commercial and industrial analog simulators (such as
SPICE ) have added many other device models as technology advanced and earlier models became inaccurate. To attempt standardization of these models so that a set of model parameters may be used in different simulators, an industry working group was formed, theCompact Model Council [cite web | url=http://www.geia.org/index.asp?bid=597 |title= CMC - Compact Model Council |publisher=Government Electronics & Information Technology Association (GEIA)] , to choose, maintain and promote the use of standard models [cite web |url=http://www.geia.org/index.asp?bid=1333 |title= Standard Models and Downloads |publisher=Government Electronics & Information Technology Association (GEIA)] . BSIM models, developed atUC Berkeley are one of these standards. They include BSIM3 [cite web |url=http://www-device.eecs.berkeley.edu/~bsim3/latenews.html |title=BSIM3 Latest News |publisher=UC Berkeley] , BSIM4 [cite web |url=http://www-device.eecs.berkeley.edu/~bsim3/bsim4.html |title=BSIM4 Latest News |publisher=UC Berkeley] , and BSIMSOI [cite web |url=http://www-device.eecs.berkeley.edu/~bsimsoi |title=Introduction to BSIMSOI |publisher=UC Berkeley] .Other models supported by the council are [http://pspmodel.asu.edu/ PSP] , [http://www.iee.et.tu-dresden.de/iee/eb/hic_new/hic_start.html HICUM] , and [http://mextram.ewi.tudelft.nl/ MEXTRAM] .
