"What's on TV" is a weekly television listings magazine published by IPC Media, a Time Warner subsidiary. It is claimed to be the United Kingdom's best-selling magazine with over 4 million readers Fact|date=February 2007. It is sold at a price of 45p.

It was launched in 1991 after the monopoly on listings magazine ended. Before this, only Radio Times had BBC listings and TV Times had ITV and, from 1982, Channel 4 listings. What's On TV started along with TV Quick and the short lived TV Plus in March 1991.

When "What's on TV" was launched in 1991, the cover picture usually had TV stars and programmes but more recently it almost exclusively has a soap represented on the cover (mainly EastEnders).

In addition to television listings, it contains news and gossip from soap operas, as well as puzzles and competitions.

In January 2007, the magazine launched its own soaps and TV website [cite web|url=http://www.ipcmedia.com/press/whats_on_tv__the_uks_biggest_selling_magazine__launches_online_press_98442.html|title=What's on TV launches online|accessdate=2007-03-10 |date=October 24, 2006 |work=Press Office Release|publisher=IPC Media] - http://www.whatsontv.co.uk - which covers the latest soap plots for the six big soaps: EastEnders, [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/eastenders] Coronation Street, [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/corrie] Emmerdale, [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/emmerdale] Hollyoaks, [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/hollyoaks] Neighbours [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/neighbours] and Home & Away, [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/homeandaway] as well as the daily fix of soap and TV gossip. [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/news] Again, this demonstrates the magazine's emphasis in recent years on soap content.

Like the magazine, the website also includes a full TV guide and TV listings pages, and the day's top TV picks. [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/pick_of_the_day] The website has over 25,000 searchable film reviews, with information from full cast lists to staff credits, dating from as early as the 1940s.

The website has an extensive database of soap character biographies and actor profiles [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/soap_whos_who] for the three big UK soaps.

In December 2007 the website launched a Christmas microsite [cite web|url=http://www.ipcmedia.com/press/whatsontvcouk_takes_care_of_christmas_with_new_festive_section_press_166528.html|title=whatsontv.co.uk takes care of Christmas with new festive|accessdate=2007-12-10 |date=December 10, 2007 |work=Press Office Release|publisher=IPC Media] consisting of a guide to Christmas TV, [http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/christmas] photos, video links, competitions, quizzes and a review of 2007.

There is also a related mobile phone service [cite web|url=http://www.ipcmedia.com/press/whats_on_tv_goes_mobile_press_92159.html|title=What's on TV goes mobile|accessdate=2006-08-15 |date=August 15, 2006 |work=Press Office Release|publisher=IPC Media ] , currently run offportal and also on the mobile operators Orange and Vodafone's portals. This provides listings, picks of the day, soap updates and film choices, as well as downloads. The service will launch soon on O2. Mobile services are run in partnership with TV Genius and Filmnight.com.

"What's on TV" belongs to IPC Media's family of television magazines, which form the sub-group TX. This includes sister title TV Easy, the long-established TV Times and TV & Satellite Week, as well as the soap bi-weekly Soaplife.
