- Jason Chatfield
Jason Chatfield ( [b. Perth, 1984] -) is an Australian editorial and
comic strip cartoonist and stand-up comedian, based in Melbourne, Victoria. He has been cartooning professionally since2003 . His work covers the areas of Comic Strips, Political Cartoons, Commissioned Caricatures, Live Caricatures as entertainment at corporate events, and internationally published book illustrations.Ginger Meggs
Chatfield took over writing and drawing the iconic internationally syndicated comic strip "
Ginger Meggs " in2007 , becoming the strip's fifth artist, succeedingJames Kemsley (a close friend and mentor). Kemsley wrote to the Bancks family to secure approval for Chatfield to succeed him. Ginger Meggs appears today in over 120 papers in 32 countries worldwide. It was Kemsleys explicit request as a condition of Chatfield's taking over the strip that he use Kemsley's meticlously compiled image library to make the transition as visually palatable to the readers as possible. This was because of Kemsley's fear that a jarring change in style could prompt loyal readers to complain. Kemsley detailed to Chatfield how to use the images correctly and gave him unrestricted permission to use the images. For the initial period of transition of 6 months, Chatfield used Kemsley's images and wrote the gags. After this period, the strip has been a combination of Kemsley's and Chatfield's artwork, along with Chatfield's gags. Every single strip is thusly signed "Kemsley and Chatfield". More and more frequently, the strips are 100% hand-drawn by Chatfield, although still signed "Kemsley and Chatfield". [http://www.jasonchatfield.com/blog/images/GM1267.jpgsee example.]
