The original idea for creating a website started in November 2003. Squad XP originally started as a clan for the online Xbox game "
Halo 2 ".Fact|date=December 2007 K Rock retained the domain after the clan dissolved and while working atCingular Wireless he met Carlos Noda, Rodder XP. Rodder came to K Rock with an idea for a website where they would post news that mattered to the community and then voice their opinions in a radio show format. The show launched onSeptember 19 2005 (" [http://www.squadxphosting.com/podcast/show_1.mp3 Recording] "). Version 2.0
As the site received more recognition across gaming sites,Fact|date=December 2007 a faster way to post news needed to be implemented. K Rock reached out to Ricky McInnes from Tshizzle.com for help in getting the site on a better platform. McInnes thought it would be best to convert to PHP-Nuke since it was an easier way to administrate the site and for the community to post news.Fact|date=December 2007 After a few weeks of work, Version 2.0 was released.
Squad XP adopted Jason Sipes, a community member that was avid in posting news for the site during E3. After E3, Jason, otherwise known as FordGTGuy joined Squad XP to form it's news department.Fact|date=December 2007
Jeffrey Rosales, Bounty XP, joined the show in June 2006 and was an instant hit with the community for his outlandish behavior.Fact|date=December 2007

April 1 2007 K Rock was issued theMicrosoft Most Valuable Professional Award in recognition of his influence in the gaming industry. [ [https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Kelly Kelly Gomes "K Rock XP" Awarded MVP Award] ]In the summer of 2007, Squad XP underwent a profound change when two parts of the three-part recipe for success, Julez XP and Bounty XP, departed the show. Citing philosophical differences with the host, Krock XP, their departure signified a consistent and steady downturn in both content and fan following of the show. During the following months, postings on the Squad XP forum began to unveil the true details of the dissolution. Krock XP's blatant exaggerations regarding his feminine conquests, behind-the-scenes direction and content editing to appease Microsoft, attempts to curry favor with the gaming community and rival sites via compromising of the basic ideals of Squad XP, and seemingly schizophrenic delusions of grandeur and "shape-shifting" transformations of his clothing style, manner of speech, and overall personality to correspond to current social trends eventually caused fundamental and irreconcilable differences amongst the trio of formerly good friends. The final chapter in this online drama came when show founder Krock XP took a secret sabbatical which he later revealed to be a "friendship test" via email and through this final display of apparent insecurity and lack of self-esteem alienated the pair of Julez XP and Bounty XP. Although later attempts by Krock XP to recapture the essence and wide-ranging appeal of the show through "fan hosts" and other gimmicks have proven failures, the site remains active, albeit on a much smaller scale and popularity, in the gaming community.
