Sean Jean Rodriguez began his high school career at Miami Coral Park Senior High School. Under the supervision of Head Coach Jose Novas, he played center field displaying an astute ability to read baseballs off the bat, while gunning down baserunners with his cannon like arm strength. Although Sean achieved wonderful success at center field, he longed to play shortstop. However, his during his freshman year shortstop was occupied by the eventual third overall pick of the major league draft (Luis Montanez). After Montanez graduated there was an intense competition for the shortstop position between three top candidates: Guillermo Martinez (Florida Marlins), Robert Valido (Chicago White Sox), and of course Sean. Eventually, Valido won the battle with Martinez moving to third and Rodriguez to center. Rodriguez was never happy in center leading to his eventual transfer to G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School.
