Aetnaville Bridge

Aetnaville Bridge

The Aetnaville Bridge was built late in the season in December 1891. It linked the village of Aetnaville, which is part of what is now considered Bridgeport, Ohio to Wheeling Island, which is part of Wheeling, West Virginia. The bridge once carried people to and from the Ohio and West Virginia sides of the Ohio River until the bridge was shut down in December 1988, due to safety concerns. The bridge still stands today and is mostly used as a way for pedestrians to cross without having to go all the way around to the new Bridgeport Bridge.
