Batala (music)

Batala is a form of samba drum music which originates in Salvador de Bahia in northeastern Brazil.

It was founded by Brazilian Giba Goncalves, from Salvador. Batala is a Brazilian-style percussion band which has its musical and historical roots in Brazil. There are batala bands all over the world including; Liverpool, Bangor, Lancaster, Portsmouth, Barmouth Paris, Washington, Spain, Angola and of course Brazil. The batala bands all over the world are involved in projects teaching Brazilian drumming and dance, workshops and play in parades, major carnivals, private celebrations, opening ceremonies, Brazilian nights, festivals and perform at major sporting and music events.
