Rizon is a large
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network. Rizon has an average of around 20,000 users online.Rizon ircd
Rizon currently uses Plexus ircd. Plexus was coded specifically with Rizon in mind, based on hybrid ircd. Plexus is not exclusive to Rizon though. The ircd is used by other, smaller networks.
Version 1.x and 2.x were originally coded by static & peer.Version 3.x was rewritten by ThaPrince and now worked on by the Rizon Dev Team.
History
In early
2004 , mIRCX and Aniverse IRC networks were DDoS'd and forced to shut down operations permanently (Aniverse operates again now). This caused approximately 8,000-10,000 irc users of variousanime fansub bing channels to migrate to Rizon. This move forced Rizon to increase number of connected servers, as well as become a target for more DDoS attacks.Rizon is speculated to be the ones who initiated the attacks on mIRCX in order to get more users. They have had numerous xdcc bots linked with DDoS networks and many of their administrators were linked closely to providing these bots.
ISP bans
Recently Rizon has
G-line d (blocked)Türk Telekom s (ttnet) entire range of IPs (*@*.ttnet.net.tr). Rizon staff explained that the action was a result of the halo caused by the spam bots using a range ofdynamic IP s. Initial measures that had been placed prior to the ISP-wide g-line such as mandatoryident to connect had proven to be ineffective. Also inquiries to ttnet undertaken by Rizon regarding the spambots were unanswered. In June 2007, the founder, Jason "Nessun" Downey [http://www.spamsuite.com/book/export/html/150 plead guilty] in a US Federal court of one count involving operating botnets and launching distributed denial of service attacks 'From on or about June 18, 2004 to on or about September 5, 2004' against un-named victims. According to a United States Department of Justice, "Downey faces up to 24 months’ imprisonment and a fine of up to $40,000. Downey will also be required to make full restitution to the victim computer owners in the amount of $ 21,110 to pay for the costs associated with repairing the consequences of the damage."
